Located in the heart of the Irish midlands and only an hour’s drive from Dublin, Millbank is an ideal base from which to explore all of Ireland’s main visitor attractions. Keen golfers have a choice of more than a dozen top class golf courses within a 50 km radius. Walkers can ramble through the magnificent Slieve Bloom mountains, which are 15 minutes away and, if you need something a little less energetic, you can shop ‘til you drop in Kildare Village, which is less than half an hour away.
Millbank is a late 18th century Georgian Country House which has been tastefully restored and extended in recent times. Like much of the surrounding area, Millbank was part of the demesne of Sir Charles Henry Coote, who resided at Ballyfin House, just 5 miles away. The property now comprises:
• The Main House, with 5 large bedrooms, swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
• The Miller’s Cottage 50 metres from the main house with 3 cosy bedrooms
Millbank is an exclusive self-catering house rental where guests can organise corporate events or incentives or pamper themselves in exclusive 18th century style for special celebrations with family or friends during a two day minimum booking.
Perfect as a way to celebrate a special occasion such as a family reunion, an anniversary or a major birthday, as a base for a cultural or sporting event, or simply for a group of friends who would like to get away from it all, perhaps to reminisce and have some fun!
Business parties can include corporate entertaining, brainstorming sessions or small conferences, while our secluded settings makes an ideal and secure base for small groups of executives who wish to plan their corporate strategy in private.
Set in 6 acres of mature woodland, the gardens offer a poignant reminder of the history of the property and the people who lived and worked there. The lake and millrace that powered the giant mill wheel more than 150 years ago provide a much more tranquil atmosphere these days. With more than 2 kilometres of walks through pine forest, along the adjoining White Horse river and around Millbank’s large pond, the gardens produce a serenity and other worldliness that is quite unique. You can feed Millbank’s pet geese or the wild ducks that visit the pond. You can watch the Herons circling and swooping on the river with an eye on some unfortunate trout! If you’re lucky (and quiet), you might bump into a red squirrel or two!
Please note that the house is not wheelchair accessible.
Directions: Millbank is located 1 km from the centre of Mountrath, Co. Laois in the direction of Abbeyleix.
