Enniscoe House

is one of Ireland's listed heritage houses and has passed by descent through twelve generations to the present owner, Susan Kellett. This is the last surviving great house in north County Mayo to retain the bulk of its original contents intact, and Susan now runs the estate together with her son Dj.

The tall, bright, superbly proportioned rooms are filled with family portraits, landscapes, antique furniture and memorabilia, yet they are not in the least imposing, for Enniscoe House is a friendly house and its peaceful, relaxed atmosphere is enhanced by good food and wine, and a warm welcome.

Enniscoe House overlooks Lough Conn and all the main rooms have attractive views across the park to the lake beyond. The bedrooms, most of which also have views of the lake, are also large, warm and bright, with all their original features and furnishings, and several have four poster or half-tester beds.

Outside, one of the walled gardens has been authentically restored to its Victorian splendour while the second produces organically grown vegetables for the table. The farmyard houses a small agricultural museum, a tearoom and a shop, and also a Genealogy Centre where visitors can undertake researches into names of County Mayo origin.  The stables in the inner yard have been converted into self-catering apartments.

There is excellent fly fishing for brown trout on Loughs Conn, Cullen and Beltra, salmon fishing on the River Moy, and fly fishing for both salmon and seatrout on a number of other local rivers. The Fishery Manager at Enniscoe House can organise this for you, and can arrange boats, ghillies, tuition and the hire of rods and equipment for Lough Conn. Advance booking is always advisable.

Nearby are the Ceide Fields and the historic town of Killala, the only part of Ireland to be invaded by the French during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods, though they failed to follow up their initial success. The golf courses at Ballina, Carne and Enniscrone are all within easy reach and there are riding stables nearby. Enniscoe House is an ideal centre for exploring Achill, the Erris region of north County Mayo, and the western part of County Sligo.
