Waterfall Cottage is a completely unique vacation rental property at the heart of the spectacular Delphi Valley in southwest Mayo, Ireland. It is on one of the most beautiful parts of the Wild Atlantic Way. Surrounded by one of Ireland’s largest Special Areas for Conservation and in a National Heritage Area, the four-bedroom holiday home overlooks a pristine river in a stunning wilderness setting.
If, like me, you adore the wild Delphi valley in Ireland, or if you are searching for an exceptional rental property for an Irish vacation, check this out. Waterfall Cottage, my home for the past 15 years, is now available for rental by the week.
It's in a spectacular location in County Mayo, very close to the coast and at the heart of Ireland's best fly-fishing region.
Close to excellent salmon and trout fishing and surrounded by popular hillwalking trails, Waterfall Cottage is just 20 miles from the pretty Georgian town of Westport with its championship golf course, the spectacular Westport House and a range of interesting shops.
The nearest village, Leenane in County Galway, is eight miles to the southeast and the small town of Louisburgh is eleven miles to the north. The beautiful Killary Fjord is just two miles away and there are a number of spectacular sandy beaches, some good for surfing, within a short drive of the property.
The Delphi Valley and Doologh Pass are among the last truly unspoilt areas of western Europe and represent a nature lover’s paradise. Otters, pine martens, badgers, peregrines and mountain hares are regularly sighted and the river beside the property is home to many dippers and the occasional kingfisher.
For basic food shopping, the essentials can be bought from the village store in Leenane, where petrol is also available. Louisburgh has a small supermarket and in Westport there are three large supermarkets and many other shops.
This is a dream hideaway with easy access to all the spectacular scenery of Connemara and Mayo.
Waterfall Cottage is just 90 minutes from Knock International airport, 2.5 hours from Shannon and 3.5 hours from Dublin. Galway city is just over an hour away.
There are four principal bedrooms (three with one large bed and one with twin single beds), plus an optional extra bunk room. There are three bathrooms, one en-suite with the master bedroom.
There’s a modern kitchen and a large day room equipped with satellite TV, wi-fi, an eclectic library and a DVD player. The piece de resistance is the spectacular 440 sq. ft. lower level River Room with its terrace right beside the river, offering amazing views over the water to the wild scenery beyond.
The cottage has oil-fired underfloor heating and a large wood-burning stove.
